Have you ever found yourself saying:
“I don’t really have a choice.”
“That’s just how it is.”
“There’s nothing I can do about it.”
“Once this changes, then I’ll feel better.”
I know I’ve had moments like that.
And sometimes, life really does put circumstances in front of us that we didn’t choose and can’t control.
But there is another question we can ask:
What part of this IS mine to choose?
I invite you to look at life differently—to recognize that our thoughts, words, beliefs, and expectations aren’t insignificant. They influence how we experience the world and how we move through it.
I don’t interpret that as:
“Think positive and everything will magically go your way.”
Life doesn’t work that way.
We don’t control other people.
We don’t control every circumstance.
We don’t get to prevent every disappointment, loss, or unexpected turn.
But we do have influence over something incredibly important:
💫 What we make those experiences mean.
We can choose the story we tell ourselves.
We can choose whether fear gets to make the decision.
We can choose whether we continue living from an old identity—or begin creating a new one.
We can choose to pause before automatically saying yes.
We can choose to listen to that quiet inner voice that says:
💫 There may be another way.
That is where I believe the real “dance of life” begins.
Not with controlling life.
With becoming an active participant in it.
👉 A little experiment for this week
The next time you catch yourself thinking:
“I have to…”
Pause.
Ask yourself:
“Do I actually have to—or am I choosing this because I’m afraid of what might happen if I don’t?”
Then ask:
“What choice is available to me here?”
You may discover that the choice isn’t as big as changing your entire life.
Maybe it’s setting one boundary.
Having one honest conversation.
Taking one step you’ve been avoiding.
Resting without feeling guilty.
Or simply choosing a different thought.
Small choices can begin creating very different lives.
💫 Your reflection
Where in your life have you been telling yourself:
“I don’t have a choice”?
And what might become possible if you looked again and asked:
“What IS within my power to choose?”
You don’t have to have the whole path figured out.
You just have to be willing to take the next honest step.
That’s where your inner wisdom begins to speak.
I’d love to hear from you. ❤️
